GVDBC Deaf Bowling Informal Get-Together

Come out and have some fun with the GVDBC Deaf Bowling League.

We accept teams of 3 persons (or more) or you can join as an individual.  Anyone interested is welcome.

We only bowl 24 weeks, which is shorter than most leagues in the area.

We have a split-season format, so your team will have more than one chance to make it into the final playoffs.

Join us for an informal get-together (“FIRST DAY”) at the Revs Bowling Centre (formerly the Brentwood Recreational Centre, just next to the Holdom Skytrain Station on Lougheed Highway in Burnaby) on Saturday, September 8th at 10:00 am. There will be the Drawing of teams.  After that, three FREE non-league games will be played for that day only.

Please be sure to call and reserve your spot now, even if you can’t attend on September 8th.

League play begins Saturday, September 15th at 9:45 am.

Rights and Deaf Education
Purpose of International Sign Language Rights / Deaf Education:
• To sign and ratify the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with
Disabilities and modify their education legislation to follow the convention
• To legalize sign languages and qualify for Deaf children to lift the prohibition
against sign language for Deaf children with cochlear implants and to change the
policy established by existing Auditory Verbal Therapy (AVT) refusing to see Deaf
children and students with cochlear implants who are using sign language
• To reaffirm World Federation of the Deaf’s position on Education Rights for
Deaf children that all Deaf people, including Deaf children, have right to full
access to qualify education through visual modes, including indigenous sign
languages. This position is supported by several international conventions of the
United Nations
• To establish policies to require educational settings provide mandatory staff
training in such as sign language proficiency, anti-Audism education and
anti-discrimination training that have access to the services of educated, trained
and qualified sign language interpreters, other needed support services, Deaf
peers and role models, and full participation in both the educative and
co-curricular processes.
NOTE: World Federation of the Deaf (WFD), National Association of the Deaf
(NAD), and Canadian Association of the Deaf (CAD) will have their countries,
states and provinces to join together for this rally on September 28/29th.
